SENIOR ATHLETES IMPRESS IN SEASON OPENER

Aaron Powell, Mustafa Fall, Errol Qaqa, Samuela Railoa and Makereta Naulu were all in impressive form at the first ever competition for the 2017-2018 Athletics Fiji regular season.  The competition was used as a build up for the athletes preparing for the upcoming Asian Indoor Games however various primary school athletes also showed up using it as their build up to the annual FMF Chow Games.

Most impressive of the day was Aaron Powell in the men’s 100m, Elenoa Sailosi in the women’s 100m and Samuela Railoa in the men’s 400m. Powell breasted the tape in a season best of 10.95s moving him up to number 4 in this year’s national rankings. Elenoa Sailosi also clocked as season’s best of 12.77s in the 100m to beat Makereta Naulu moving her up to number 10 in this year’s rankings.

Samuela Railoa also showed impressive form crossing the finishing line in a time of 48.84s, 50m ahead of the field which included Jim Bolakoro, Melchizadek Katofono and Francis Kirikirikula. Errol Qaqa and Mustafa Fall also displayed their dominance in their respective events, Fall throwing an impressive 15.60m just 8cm shy of his gold medal winning performance from this year’s Oceania Championships. On the contrary despite running alone, Qaqa gracefully cleared the 5 high hurdles with ease in the men’s 60m hurdles sprint.
