In the next 12 months Athletics Fiji through its Pacific Sports Partnership Program (PSP) is planning to engage more Special Schools around the country with the help of Ministry of Education Special and Inclusive Education Unit, to participate in the Kids Athletics Program. Working with special schools is one of the three main objectives of the PSP program for the 2017-2018 period.
Programs for special schools would include certification of teachers as Kids Athletics Activators which would enable them to conduct kids athletics programs within their schools all year round. This would ensure the sustainability of the KA program and reduce the reliance on Athletics Fiji Development Officers to run the program for each special school. Athletics Fiji is hopeful that the KA program will be one of the events at the National Games for Special Schools later this year.
The PSP program is also looking at assisting in the running of a national workshop on how to coach athletes with disability which will be coordinated with the Fiji Paralympics Association. It is also our intention to include other key stake holders so that programs are inculcated into the main stream sporting activities and structures.
Keep up the great work.
