Release by: Athletics Fiji (11/02/2026)
Athletics Fiji is pleased to announce the official publication of the Team Fiji Selection Criteria for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, providing clarity and transparency for athletes, coaches, and stakeholders as preparations intensify towards the Commonwealth Games.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August 2026, bringing together elite athletes from across the Commonwealth to compete on one of sport’s biggest international stages.
The selection criteria outline the qualification standards, performance benchmarks, qualifying period, selection trials, and nomination processes required for athletes to be considered for Team Fiji. These criteria have been developed in consultation with national coaches, technical officials, and relevant stakeholders to ensure a fair, merit-based, and transparent selection process aligned with international best practice.
In addition to the selection criteria, Athletics Fiji has also published its Preliminary Long List of athletes identified as potential representatives for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The long list recognizes athletes who have demonstrated strong performances, potential, and commitment within the current qualification period. Inclusion on the long list does not guarantee selection but serves as an important step in monitoring athlete progression and readiness leading into the final selection phase.
Athletics Fiji encourages all athletes and coaches to carefully review both the selection criteria and long list, and to plan their training and competition schedules accordingly as the qualification window progresses.
