THE 1994 REWA DAIRY GRAND PRIX

In this edition of Flashback Friday, we re-visit the 1994  Rewa Diary Grand Prix.

The second round of the Annual Athletics Fiji Grand Prix will be held this Saturday at the ANZ Stadium, Suva with cash prizes up for grabs in various events. This is not the first time that Athletics Fiji has organized such an event, matter of fact the Grand Prix has been one of AF’s continued legacy from the mid 1900’s.

The 1994 Rewa Dairy Grand Prix was held in 5 different venues around Fiji for 6 consecutive weeks. The venues included Lomary Secondary School Grounds (Lomary, Serua), Kalevu Grounds (Cuvu, Nadroga), Ba Market Grounds (Ba), Natabua High School Grounds (Lautoka) and the National Stadium (Suva).

The goal of the Grand Prix was to provide top athletes a high standard of regular competition as part of their build up and preparation towards the 1995 Pacific Games and to also discover hidden talent.

Some of the big names that competed included the likes of Jone Delai, Alex Soqosoqo, Calvin Yee, Kilive Naloli, Gordon Fong, Marica Likulewadua, Sereseini Likuwaqa, Sireli Naikelekelevesi and Samisoni Nawakelokelo.
