Athletics Fiji will be sending a team of 12 to this year’s Melanesian Championships in Port Vila, Vanuatu. The team will be led by Errol Qaqa on the Men’s side and Heleina Young on the Women’s side with Athletics Fiji Secretary Nemani Tukunia and Calvin Yee as the team managers and Bola Tafo’ou as head coach.
The team departs for Port Vila on the 7th of this month with competition starting on Wednesday the 9th and finishing off on Friday 11th. The team is looking to return with a few medals around their necks and a few personal bests.
However for High School sprint sensations Salote Baravilala, Serenia Ragatu and Louisa Tubuilagi, these championships will be the perfect opportunity to try and run Youth Olympic Qualifying standard times for a spot on the Fiji Youth Olympic Team to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
