1975 SOUTH PACIFIC GAMES

The 1975 South Pacific Games, held in Guam from 1 to 10 August 1975, was the fifth edition of the South Pacific Games. A total of 1,205 athletes (907 men and 298 women) participated in a rain-affected games which had only one clear day out of the ten scheduled. However, preparations for the events did not progress smoothly, and visiting teams were disappointed with the condition of some of the venues and the scheduling in the middle of the rainy season. The games went ahead despite the logistical problems. Sixteen South Pacific Games records were broken in the track and field athletics events alone. Athletics competitions at the 1975 South Pacific Games were held in Tumon, Guam, between August 4–9, 1975. A total of 35 events were contested, 22 by men and 13 by women.

Jo Rodan Snr

Picture: Joe Rodan Snr, this was to be the first of his many outings for Fiji where he won the 400m Hurdles in a time of 54.70s. His events ranged from 100m, 200m, 400m, 110m and 400m Hurdles to Member of the 4x100m and 4x400m Relay Teams. He was inducted into the the Fiji Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
