NATIONAL athletics coach Albert Miller says the focus now shifts to the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu.

Miller said athletes needed to be at their best to represent Fiji at international events.

“For me, the team did pretty well on day three of the competition, we won a number of gold medals,” he said.

“We have a lot of potential in Fiji.”

He said they had enough time to prepare for the mini games.

“We need to work hard and make the selection and be strict on the criteria and start getting people together to ensure athletes are 100 per cent ready when it comes to the Mini Pacific Games,” he said.

“Despite all the logistic challenges, we did well in the Oceania Athletics Championships.

“A lot goes back to the fitness of athletes and they need to think beyond the Fiji Finals and be prepared well.

“Young athletes basically came and told us they never trained after the Fiji Finals and that is not fair for the national team.

“We need to keep the momentum going.”
