Athletics Fiji (AF) will be looking to officially kick off their season with the highly anticipated Shop N Save Athletics Fiji Grand Prix Series.
The initiative came to fruition in 2016 in a bid to regain athletics dominance in the region and lure out potential and prospective athletes around Fiji with monetary incentives.
“AF is inviting everyone and anyone to participate. Whether you’re a rugby player, netball player, volleyball player, weightlifter, swimmer, marathon runner, boxer, cross-fitter, soccer player, former high school athletes, former reps or even if you’re just an avid fitness enthusiast looking for a challenge.” says AF Digital Media Coordinator Eugene Vollmer.
To qualify for the cash prizes an athlete/participant must:
- Compete in all 3 rounds of the series and
- Compete ONLY in the open grade
The grand prix events to be contested include; 100m, 400m, 800m, 5000m, Long Jump, High Jump and Shot Put. The performances of all participants are given corresponding IAAF scoring points throughout the 3 competitions, the points are tallied up at the end and the top 5 in each event are awarded with cash prizes per event;
- 1st – $200
- 2nd – $150
- 3rd – $100
- 4th – $50 and
- 5th – $25
The first series is scheduled for this Saturday 10th February at the ANZ Stadium Suva from 2pm-5pm; the second series is scheduled for the 17th February at Churchill Park, Lautoka from 11am-3pm and the 3rd and final series will be held on the 24th February at the ANZ Stadium Suva from 2pm-5pm.
Gate entry fee is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children.
